Saturday, January 18, 2014, 8:00 pm, Orpheum Theatre, Vancouver, BC The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will perform Aeromancy, my double cello concerto. Soloists Ariel Barnes and Joseph Elworthy, conducted by Bramwell Tovey. More info and tickets here.

January 2014, time/place TBA, St. John’s, NL – Duo Concertante — violinist Nancy Dahn and pianist Timothy Steeves — concert including Jocelyn Morlock’s Petrichor. Several other concerts in St. John’s NL at this time TBA, part of Newfound Music Festival, more information later.

January 29-31, 2014 I will be composer-in-residence for the Newfound Music Festival in St. John’s, Newfoundland. More information to follow.

February 7, 2014, 8:00 pm – Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre, 427 Bloor West, Toronto, ON – Group of 27 conducted by Eric Paetkau will perform Disquiet on their “I’m Austrian-Canadian” concert. More info on their nifty new webpage, above. – Postponed to 2014-15 season.

February 27, 2014, 8:00 pm – Tabaret Hall, Ottawa, ON –ONMC and University of Ottawa present Ensemble 1534, in a concert of Canadian new music. Directed by BC’s Bill Linwood, this concert will feature Philippe Leroux’s remarkable work for ensemble, Continuo(ns). Joining Leroux on the program are works from Gordon Fitzell (MB), Jocelyn Morlock (BC), James Rolfe (ON) and Ottawa’s own John Armstrong. More info here.

Cobalt CD Release concert – March 4, 2014, 8:00 pm – Fox Cabaret, 2321 Main Street, Vancouver

  • Vancouver’s newest venue, the Fox Cabaret, will be hosting Music on Main’s first concert since The Cellar’s closing.
  • The concert will feature a dual CD release – Cobalt, Jocelyn Morlock’s first-ever orchestral CD (on Centrediscs/Naxos), and Corey Hamm’s brand-new recording of Frederic Rzewski’s The People United Will Never Be Defeated! (on Redshift Records.)

 

  • Corey will be performing a fantastic program contemporary solo piano works including the world premiere of Jocelyn’s wildly energetic Corybantic for solo piano, commissioned especially for this concert. Be there and wear your best blue (or maybe red?) ***Tickets on line here.

Wednesday March 19 2014, 12:00 pm, Roy Barnett Recital Hall, University of British Columbia, Vancouver – Percussionists Vern Griffiths and Aaron Mcdonald, and pianists Mark Anderson and Corey Hamm collaborate in a concert that includes Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, Mozart’s Rondo in a minor K. 511 (Mark Anderson, solo piano) and Jocelyn Morlock’s Corybantic (2014) (commissioned for Corey Hamm with the help of the BC Arts Council.)

From CMC site: “Toronto-based Leslie Ting performs thrilling new music for violin, juxtaposed by two piano trios; Ana Sokolovic’s “Portrait Parle” of 2006 and Jocelyn Morlock’s “Asylum” of 2010. A freshly revised version of Brian Harman’s À la fois crowns the programme.” Program includes Chaconne for solo violin by Karol Gostynski, À la fois for violin and cello by Brian Harman, Portrait parle for violin, cello and piano by Ana Sokolovic, Asylum for violin, cello and piano by Jocelyn Morlock. October 19 and 20 2014, 8:00 pm – Betty Oliphant Theatre, Toronto, ON – Continuum presents Souvenir – Souvenir is a journey through the history of planet Earth and human civilization. Images and music move from our cosmological beginnings through the geological underpinnings of life on earth amid the landscapes and major events in human development. October 27 2014, 7:00 pm – Roundhouse Community Centre, Vancouver, BCMusic on Main presents PEP (Piano and Erhu Project) as part of the Modulus Festival. Pianist Corey Hamm and erhu virtuoso Nicole Li created the PEP (Piano Erhu Project) to synthesize the best of Chinese and Western music. Stylistically diverse and filled with beauty, their Modulus Festival programme includes world premieres by composers Jocelyn Morlock, Edward Top, Dorothy Chang, and Keith Hamel. The concert also marks the release of the Piano Erhu Project’s first CD.
