Saturday, September 24, 8:00 pm, Orpheum Theatre, Vancouver, BC – Bramwell Tovey and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra open the season with Stravinsky’s  Rite of Spring, Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto played by phenomenal Ukrainian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk, and Jocelyn Morlock’s Oiseaux bleus et sauvages. Thursday November 24, 7:00 pm, Konserthus, Helsingborg, Sweden – Bramwell Tovey and the Helsingborg Symphony, with Torlief Thedéen – Cello, perform Morlock – Oiseaux Bleus et Sauvages, Shostakovitch – Second Cello Concerto, and Bruckner – Symphony no. 6.  Info  here and here.

Friday April 7, – Victoria – 7:30 pm  A spirit indomitable – A concert of music by Canadian women composers, marking the hundredth anniversary of the granting of women’s suffrage in British Columbia. It will feature the Emily Carr String Quartet performing works by Jocelyn Morlock, Dorothy Chang, Carol Ann Weaver and Sylvia Rickard. More info here.

Saturday May 6 and Monday May 8 – Vancouver – 8:00 pmMaestro Tovey and the VSO’s outstanding Principal Cello Ariel Barnes proudly perform the world première of Composer-in-Residence Jocelyn Morlock’s Cello Concerto, in a concert that also features beautiful French classics notable for their masterful orchestrations. Sunday, February 15, 2:00 pm – Koerner Hall, Vancouver Academy of Music – The Koerner String Quartet presents “Notes of Love and Protest” – a wildly unusual Valentine’s concert that includes my “Vermilion” for string quartet, Elvis Costello’s “Juliet Letters” and Benjamin Britten’s String Quartet No. 2 “In Time of War” – definitely “a Valentine’s event that is a little less saccharine and more zeitgeist.” More info here.

April 20 — Canadian League of Composers presents The Commissioning Paradigm 1:00 – 3:00 pm – Canadian Music Centre, 837 Davie Street, Vancouver, BC The CLC is launching an important national conversation about commissioning Canadian new music and sound art. Open to composers, performers, artistic directors, ensembles, funders — everyone with an interest in the commissioning process, from the glimmer of an idea, to the premiere, and beyond. What can we do to support a commissioning culture that is sustainable and thriving? What paradigms might support composers and their collaborators better? Marta Marta Productions invites you to attend a FREE behind-the-scenes rehearsal, performance, and discussion on April 22nd featuring MMP dancers & the Microcosmos Quartet. With special guest, composer Jocelyn Morlock. As well as the Ligeti (first string quartet) performance, they will be doing an improvisation-based dance to my piece Disquiet. April 26 – Orpheum Annex, 7:30 pm – The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Touching A StringTouching a String boasts premieres by two of VSO’s past Composers-in-Residence! Outstanding principal harpist Elizabeth Volpé Bligh is featured in Scott Good’s brand-new arrangement of his bluesy, west-coast-inspired Sonata for Harp and Strings. Edward Top’s camera obscura: dark chamber is a tenebrous homage to his father that plays on the ideas of memory, imagination, and dissolving images. Rounding out the program are Nikolai Korndorf’s monumental Let the Earth Bring Forth, wildly unusual Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi’s Anagamin, and George Benjamin’s colourful miniature, Olicantus.

May 2, 2015, 8:00 pm – Blusson Spinal Chord Centre – Vancouver, BC –  Vancouver Cantata Singers present Voices of Vancouver II featuring a variety of Vancouver choral composers – music by Stephen Chatman, Chris Doughty, Matthew Emery, Kristopher Fulton, Craig Galbraith, Graeme Langager, Jocelyn Morlock, and Jon Washburn. Sunday, May 31 – Orpheum Annex, 7:30 pm – The final concert of the VSO Annex Series is upon us! Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents The Emperor’s DaughterAn eclectic program featuring George Benjamin’s hazy, luminous At First Light, Leilei Tian’s apocalyptic Burning Rose, Dinuk Wijeratne’s frenetic, voluptuous and languid (yes, it is quite varied…) About Sankhara, and multi-talented erhu sensation Lan Tung’s (Hopefully) Happily Ever After – the darkest “happy ending” you’re likely to hear…Members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra are conducted by Maestro Gordon Gerrard. Concerts by awesome musical multitaskers Standing Wave (February 25); the legendary Kronos Quartet (February 26); the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra with guest artists pianist Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa, choreographer Marie-Josée Chartier of Chartier Danse, and dancer Brendan Wyatt (February 27); and Kronos Quartet with the VSO (February 28.)
