Two WCMA nominations for “Cobalt”

Following my roommate Mark Takeshi McGregor’s insightful notion that one’s blog is the correct place to “shamelessly horn-toot” if there is one…

Cobalt has been nominated for two Western Canadian Music Awards – the whole CD has been nominated for Classical Recording of the Year, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra/BramwellTovey recording of Oiseaux Bleus et Sauvages has been nominated for Classical Composition of the Year.

Both my Cobalt CD and Corey Hamm’s recording of Frederick Rzewski’s The People United Will Never Be Defeated! – also nominated for Classical Recording of the Year (!) were released at Corey’s solo piano concert at The Fox Cabaret, presented by Music on Main.

Really rather good odds – one concert = double CD release and three WCMA nominations in total!

Some reviews of the CD are here:

Musical Toronto
The Whole Note Magazine – Editor’s Corner
Leslie Barcza – Barczablog

You can buy Cobalt at the Canadian Music Centre, on iTunes, via Naxos online, and on Amazon.

Here’s a very tiny excerpt of Oiseaux bleus et sauvages:
