Lots of Benjamin Britten this week!

At least two concerts in Vancouver this week are featuring the music of Benjamin Britten – on Sunday, March 4, the Pacifica Singers under the direction of John William Trotter, with guest organist Michael Murray, will be performing at 3:00 pm (not in the evening! concert is in the afternoon! yes!) at St. Philip’s Anglican church, 3737 West 27th Avenue. Music by Britten, Victoria, Tallis, Dove, and Bainton.

Later in the week, star cellist Ari Barnes will be playing all three of the Britten Cello Suites at Music on Main‘s “Month of Tuesday” concert, Tuesday, March 6. (I am quite thrilled about this, being a big fan of Britten, cello, and Ari…) Doors at 6:30, concert at 8pm at the Cellar, 3611 West Broadway.

Music on Main’s “Month of Tuesdays” continues with the Ensemble Made in Canada quartet on March 13. March 20 features Mark Takeshi McGregor and Chris Bagan playing new and old music for flute and harpsichord – J.S. Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and new works by Edward Top, Cassandra Miller, Alfredo Santa Ana, and me. My new piece is called HANDELMOBILE and locomotes rather curiously. (I am most pleased with it, so you’d better go hear it or you’ll be eternally regretful.) Further updates as the month progresses…

Don't just sit there, say something!
